Water Safety Awareness Message from West Midlands Fire Service
During the hot spell over the late May Bank Holiday weekend and half-term holiday, there were a number of tragic incidents around the country, many involving young people. The forecast over the coming weeks is for temperatures to rise again.
To keep yourself and your loved ones safe around water please be aware of the following:
· Of all drownings in 2025, 57% took place in inland water – canals, rivers, lakes, ponds – the type of bodies of water we have lots of in the West Midlands.
· Even if the weather is warm the water may be cold, causing your body to go into cold water shock.
· If you fall into water Float to Live – put your head back, float on your back and keep yourself stable by using small movements of your hands.
· Once you are stable you may call for help or swim to the bank if it is feasible.
· Do not go into the water to save people or pets. Call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.
For more information about staying safe around water please visit the West Midlands Fire Service water safety page (https://www.wmfs.net/safety/water-safety/) or the RNLI Education Resources page (https://rnli.org/youth-education/education-resources).
FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) Rewards Week
22nd June 2026
Dear Parent/Carer
I am pleased to inform you that on Monday 13th July 2026, we will be holding our FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) week here at Rockwood Academy.
At Rockwood Academy, we recognise the importance to reward students for excellent behaviour and
attendance. We welcome our students who are proud of being part of the ‘Rockwood Way’ at CORE Education Trust. We are therefore excited to introduce a very special rewards week for students which we are calling FOMO week. The week will consist of games and sweet treats, trainer days and non-uniform days or selected students and also special golden tickets where students will receive special privileges during the school week.
There will also be £50, £20 and 3x £10 vouchers up for grabs for the most improved students during FOMO week.
In order to be part of this special week for the next 4 weeks, your child must:
• have 100% attendance for the next 4 weeks left of school (attending 20 school days)
• have earned over 300 CORE points to be entered in a prize draw and have a chance to win an Amazon voucher.
We look forward to seeing your child every single day in the academy. I am excited to see them begin to accumulate as many CORE points as possible from teachers over the next 4 weeks.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully
Mr G Singh
Assistant Headteacher
