Welcome to Rockwood Academy. We are very much looking forward to welcoming your child to us in September 2023 and write to outline some of the key details of our transition day. Starting secondary school is an exciting phase in education. We hope your child is looking forward to joining us and experiencing all that Rockwood Academy has to offer. We do of course recognize that along with the sense of excitement, there will understandably be a few nerves for students, carers and parents alike. We endeavor to ensure that our transition process will help to overcome these.

Our transition day for all of our new Year 7 students will be Wednesday 12th July. The day will start at 8:45am and your child will need to be collected at 2:45pm. This day is a very important part of the transition process as it will give your child a chance to spend time getting to know their new school prior to starting full time in September. The day is designed to be fun but informative and will include lots of chances to explore the school site, meet new classmates and experience some lessons. Please could you ensure you child is wearing primary school uniform, all other equipment will be provided for the day.

We very much understand that the transition process is not only important for students, but for parents and carers too. This year we will be holding a welcome evening for new parents and carers at 5:30pm on Wednesday 12th July and finish at approximately 7:00pm. This will involve a presentation on aspects of school life at Rockwood and will give you an opportunity to meet with key staff, where they will introduce themselves and talk through the September start.

We hope this event will be the beginning of a happy and supportive relationship with our caring school community. Should you have any questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our transition lead – Ms. Rekha Dhinsa – [email protected]
