In Key Stage 3 students will be introduced to the different material areas in design and technology and gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the designer. Students will become more aware of the need to select materials and resources that do not impact the environment and establish an understanding of the properties of some renewable resources. Students will design and create a prototype to suit a specific need.

When studying food, students will build skills, knowledge and an understanding of how food is produced. Students will explore how they may consider the needs of others when planning and preparing food.

In Key Stage 4, the GCSE places emphasis on understanding and applying the iterative design process. Students will use their creativity to design and make prototypes that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
